HUMANS

In my human portraits, I see each subject as an actor, embodying the role of a particular emotion, such as anxiety, anger, disgust or bitterness. I prefer one-on-one interactions which is why most humans in my paintings look directly at you, as if they’re having an intimate conversation. The large sizes with bold colors absorb our field of vision in the same way that our emotions can consume us. The background spaces and brushwork mimic the moods of the figures.

Painting this way helps me connect with my feelings. With these large faces in front of me, I spend time absorbing the sensations that I’m feeling and understanding them. When each piece is finished, I often feel as if I’m standing before a mirror, my inner landscape fully revealed.
